Did you know Rachel Maddow has a penchant for classic cocktails? Did you also know that her one and only biographer lives in nearby New Hampshire?

Join us at Babes Bar in Bethel for an evening of Cocktails & Conversation with New York Times bestselling author Lisa Rogak as we learn all about her latest subject: Rachel Maddow (and sip a few cocktails, of course!)

About the Book: In the first ever biography of the most popular anchor in cable news, veteran journalist Lisa Rogak reveals how Rachel Maddow has beaten the odds in a novel way in today’s America—by using her brain. In our highly polarized world, Maddow amiably engages the staunchest conservatives, and never hesitates to expose their light-on-facts defenses.

In RACHEL MADDOW: A Biography, Rogak covers Maddow’s entire story, from her early life and high school, to her work as an activist for HIV/AIDS organizations; coming out at Stanford University (which she announced by posting fliers in a bathroom); receiving a Rhodes Scholarship and studying at Oxford; her relationship with her partner, Susan; and her radio work, including on Air America, which, in 2008, led to her getting the MSNBC talk show The Rachel Maddow Show.

Growing up in a conservative California town – and viewing herself as a perennial outsider – helped spark an early interest in activism. Rogak delves into why Maddow took a minimum-wage job as a radio DJ in a tiny Massachusetts market while finishing her Ph.D., and how 9/11 caused her to abandon her plans to become an activist, and return to local radio where she could help listeners by "explaining stuff." This led to her groundbreaking MSNBC show where she dissects the news of the day with an approach found nowhere else on TV.

About the Author: Lisa Rogak is the author of numerous books, including And Nothing But the Truthiness: The Rise (and Further Rise) of Stephen Colbert. She is the editor of the New York Times bestseller Barack Obama in His Own Words and author of the New York Times bestseller Angry Optimist: The Life and Times of Jon Stewart. Rogak lives in New Hampshire.
