Independent Bookstore Day
It's the fifth straight year for national Independent Bookstore Day! This year, we're celebrating in a lot of different ways:
- Exclusive *Limited Edition* Indie Bookstore Day merchandise
- Raffles & Giveaways
- Free audio book downloads from our amazing partners: Libro.fm
- Crowd Favorite: Books By the Pound fundraiser for our local food shelf (Yes, we really weigh them. Big scale and everything. *Cash or check only, so come prepared!)
- Accellerated one-day-only VT Bookstore Passport Challenge
- Vermont Wild bear cub fundraiser
The Fine Print:
*Exclusive Merchandise is limited in quantity, and cannot be reserved or held for purchase. All items go on sale when we open (10am) on Indie Bookstore Day.
*Audio Books from Libro.fm are the way for you to support your local indie while getting all that sweet, sweet audio book goodness you've previously been getting from *cough* OTHER less independent sources. If you love audio books, and want to support us (or any other independent bookstore) while enjoying them, go sign up here. Then, you can take advantage of their free audio books, available on 4/27 for yourself or to send as a gift to others.
*Yes, the Books-by-the-Pound fundraiser is really cash or check only. Since we're collecting the funds and giving them straight to the local food bank, this is the best way to make that happen - no credit card fees necessary. Please come prepared.
*The VT Bookstore Passport Challenge is usually something that takes time. With 20 independent bookstores scattered around our fair state, we encourage people to take days - or even weeks - to really visit the shops and enjoy the towns. But if you've been coveting the prizes and haven't had time to finish the entire passport, here's your chance to participate with a shortened version:
Take part in the Vermont Independent Bookstores challenge! Visit 3 or more independent bookstores in Vermont on Independent Bookstore Day, Saturday, April 27th for your chance to win the full prize package of a Vermont Independent Bookstores pin, sticker, magnet and reusable tote! Usually winning all this loot would require visiting all 20 bookstores featured on the Vermont Independent Bookstores Passport, so this is a rare opportunity!

*For the Vermont Wild bear cub fundraiser, we are teaming up with local author Megan Price and other independent bookstores around Vermont to help make a larger impact. Proceeds from the sales of Price's Vermont Wild books will go to the Kilham Bear Center (KBC) in Lyme, New Hampshire. "WCAX just reported KBC is currently overwhelmed caring for 65 cubs, with more expected this spring," Price noted. "KBC accepts orphaned bears from Vermont, the Adirondacks and beyond. The center must build more housing for the cubs and, of course, these little guys eat like proverbial bears! The not-for-profit center needs help." This fundraiser will be running at Yankee Bookshop from April 25th - May 1st. The Vermont Wild books detail humorous, true retired game warden encounters with moose, beaver, bear and wily poachers. They are used in schools from Maine to Texas to teach reading and writing, hunters take them to camp, and the books are often read aloud as entertainment. For any lover of the outdoors, these books make a great gift.
